Prayer for Patient Comfort Prior to Plastic Surgery Procedures by Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon

Prayer for Patient Comfort Prior to Plastic Surgery Procedures            by Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon           I am often asked by patients to say a prayer prior to surgery.  I never suggest this so as not to offend or disrupt the patient state prior to surgery, but it is interesting how often patients express their desire for prayer prior to surgery.  I am not, as a plastic surgeon, trying to proselytize patients.  Although I am Christian and have powerful feelings and beliefs in that regard, the professionalism of medicine I think prohibits me from introducing this element into conversation.             In my personal life, this is a totally different paradigm.  In my life in which I have endured immense struggles the likes of which would probably have crippled anyone else, my faith has allowed me to overcome.  After a serious automobile accident at age 23, I had one surgery after another and had nerve damage and difficulty walking, si

A Brazilian Buttlift Is Not for Everyone by Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon

A Brazilian Buttlift Is Not for Everyone by Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon            The two main issues that may prevent a patient from getting a great result with a Brazilian buttlift are 1) not enough fat to harvest so that the buttlift can be performed 2) the patient has already had surgery before and wants additional volume or projection.            For this individual, the best option is buttock implant surgery.  Though implants come in many sizes and two shapes, round and oval, most patients will want at least a 300 cc implant and no more than a 600 cc implant.  The maximum volume of implant available is 712 cc, which is a round implant.  At least in Dr. Kenneth Hughes's practice, the round implant is much more popular though the dissection for an oval implant is easier as the lateral dissection does not have to continue as far.  Most patients want a round buttock with the illusion of hips rather than a long narrow buttock with more projection

What Is It Really Like to be a Plastic Surgeon? by Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon

What Is It Really Like to be a Plastic Surgeon? by Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon            What is it really like to be a plastic surgeon?   Well, everyone thinks that you are rolling in money and that you are dating models and that you are driving Ferraris and that you go on vacation to one of your many homes.             I will give you an idea.  I have one home.  I have not taken a vacation in 10 years, and my life is basically consumed with dealing with patient-related issues.   There is no dating.  There is no time for family.  You answer patient calls on nights and weekends.  You answer thousands of patient emails a month.  You fill out or dictate all of the patient charts with operative notes, preop notes and consults, and postoperative and follow up notes.  You attend to your surgery center so that all equipment and supplies are up to date.  There is no time for hobbies.  You must allow for some exercise, eating, and sleeping, but this is to al
