Question: I’m having a BBL in late July, what can happen if I leave my contraceptive implant?
Answer: The risks and benefits in your particular case will have to be weighed, and the surgeon you select will have to make a decision.

Question: Do I need to gain wait to be a “good” candidate for a BBL?
Answer: Filling in the hip dents may be reasonable with your fat stores; abdomen and thighs are best areas for harvesting and have fewest problems afterwards. Gaining weight is often counterproductive. If you gain weight that is fat, some of the fat will likely be associated with the buttocks.  In almost every case, I do not recommend weight gain prior to a BBL. I think it is better to maintain your stable weight.

Question: My surgeon said not to sit for three months after BBL. I can’t possibly put life on pause that long. Is this accurate?
Answer: I always advocate following your PS's post operative protocols as he/she knows how you are recovering and the extent of your surgery. I recommend that my patients minimize sitting, even with a pillow, for the first two weeks.  If they must sit, every 30 minutes or an hour, they should get up and stand for a few seconds to take the pressure off.   This reduces the chance for fat necrosis. I usually recommend about 6 weeks before sitting without a pillow. After 6 weeks the fat has revascularized, and they will have a very good idea of their final results.

Question: Drains or no drains after BBL? What are the pros and cons?
Answer: The risk for infection with drains may be higher. I try to avoid them unless someone is having a problem with fluid collections.

Question: Should I be gaining weight, maintaining, or losing weight for a BBL? (photos)
Answer: Gaining weight is often counterproductive. If you gain weight that is fat, some of the fat will likely be associated with the buttocks.  In almost every case, I do not recommend weight gain prior to a BBL. I think it is better to maintain your stable weight.

Question: If You Have Diabetes and Your HgA1C is 12, Can You Have Brazilian Buttlift?
Answer: A HgA1C score above 9.0 is considered critically high and typically indicates that your blood sugar is not well controlled.  Having a critically high A1C score increases the risk of post-operative infection and slows healing time. Revisit the PCP or whichever specialist is treating you for your diabetes to review life style changes:  weight reduction, exercise, medication.

Question: Is there something I can do to reduce fat from recent bbl ?
Answer: Recovery from BBL is patient dependent. Much of this depends upon the amount of liposuction performed and the amount of fat transferred. I have observed that between 4 and 6 weeks the buttocks tend to stabilize in volume.  Usually by 3 months, the swelling is minimal and totally resolved by 6 months.  Recommend you wait until six months to evaluate final results before making any decision to consider a revision.

Question: Does breastfeeding affect BBL results?
Answer: The lactation process is more of an issue with breast surgery.  Most PSs will advise you to wait at least three months after the cessation of breast feeding to ensure that you have reached your goal weight and maintained it for several months. The fat that lives in the buttocks from the procedure will get larger with weight gain and smaller with weight loss so preventing these fluctuations in weight is important after a BBL.

Question: Can you get a BBL after a heart ablation?
Answer: Cardiac clearance would have to be provided to proceed.  Extensive knowledge of your past medical history and risk factors will have to be determined and balanced against the risk for bleeding if you are using blood thinners.

Question: Would a BBL and breast implants achieve my goal? (Photos)
Answer: I perform this combination of procedures at the same time on healthy patients.   In the postoperative period there are ways to manage the areas so that pressure is not placed on the buttocks and hips. This will depend upon your surgeon's preference and how each of the surgeries is performed. There are creative ways to manage this.  The thinner patient requires an expert at liposuction to remove as much fat as possible while leaving the skin smooth.
Look for a board certified plastic surgeon who is skilled at both procedures, has favorable patient reviews, and hundreds of before and after photos on his or her website.

Question: BBL (heart shaped). Do you think I will do fine with 500cc in each cheek? (Photo)
Answer: The results depend more on skin expansion than volume injected.

Question: I’m really wanting to get a BBL. I’m 5’9" and 147 lbs. Would it be possible to get a nice heart shape? Am I a candidate?
Answer: Sometimes, individuals will have problem areas that are relatively exercise and diet resistant. These are the focus areas for your PS to lipo. Liposuction will remove the excess fat on your sides, abdomen, and thighs and make the waist as small as possible. The fat harvested can be transferred to the buttocks to ensure optimal fat viability and projection.

Question: Hello! I'm 5'2" and 112lbs. I'm interested in getting a BBL. I'm mostly looking to accentuate my waist and add more volume.
Answer: The thinner patient requires an expert at liposuction to remove as much fat as possible while leaving the skin smooth. There are a lot of women who can get nice results despite thinking that there is not enough fat.

Question: I have Degenerative Disc Disease and am looking into having a BBL. Will this be a problem or will I have complications?
Answer: Although there is always an exception, having chronic degenerative disc disease should likely not present an impediment to the BBL.  I would recommend that you obtain clearance from your orthopedist or neurosurgeon to lessen your anxiety. There is always a possibility that you will have an improvement in back issues with a tightening of the abdominal wall.

Question: Why do you have to wait a year after having a baby to do liposuction or a Brazilian buttlift (BBL)?
Answer: Most patients will need at least 3 months following delivery.  Some patients may need more time than that to return to their pre-pregnancy weight and hormones levels and for lactation to be complete. You do not want the demands of caring for a newborn while you are recovering from lipo and a BBL and you want to maximize the results.

Question: Is there a higher risk of complications in getting a BBL if I already have implants?
Answer: The fat transfer can be performed with implants in place.  You can achieve a dramatic improvement in the buttocks and the overall body contour with the BBL.

Question: I am hyperthyroid and am currently managing this with medication (Carbimazole).  Am I still a candidate for body sculpting?
Answer: Although the procedures can be performed under local anesthesia, these procedures can be extraordinarily painful for the patient. You want the most dramatic transformation possible, and you do not want to be in pain. General anesthesia requires a trained anesthesiologist (I use board certified anesthesiologists) to be present at all times, and to monitor the patient closely (blood pressure, temperature, respirations, etc).  Your board certified PS and endocrinologist must perform risk analysis for your safety and comfort.

Question: Would a tight butt deter dramatic results?
Answer: After having performed this procedure hundreds and hundreds of times, you see patients all along the range of human anatomy.  I would say that there are a lot of variables that factor into the result.  Unless your skin has been affected by burn, trauma, previous surgery, or some type of skin disease, you can likely still get a great result.

Question: Can I get fat taken out of armpit area for a bbl?
Answer: Fat can be taken from many different areas including abdomen, sides, back, bra rolls, thighs, arms, underarms, etc.
